I have 330Mbps internet with a fast-ish PC (9th Gen i5, 16GB RAM) and yet the restore process is only downloading at 1.5Mbps. I had tested it on small groups of files using the web interface and proved the data was there and could be restored, but when I really needed a reliable service, it has let me down. However, a backup service is only useful if you can restore your data. The price had risen by about 20% over the time, but for the peace of mind of believing your data was safe, I was OK to pay that increase. I have used Carbonite for cloud backups since 2016 and had, up to now, been happy with what I was getting. When I asked to speak to a customer service manager (still in Jamaica), he started to also pretend not to understand the issue, so I cut to the point and asked if he would or would not help. They have farmed off the duty of explaining how useless their software is to a foreign country, probably used to bad service. They used to have American customer service agents who were quite nice. They also have moved all their customer service to Jamaica, to people who do not have authority to rectify anything. How stupid and desperate are they? Meanwhile before this happened, I had used the service for years and had referred many people to it. A fraudulent company but they must have used legal language to absolve themselves. Anyway, I lost all my files because of this and asked for a refund of the remaining months of the subscription (I prepaid the whole year and had used only 2 months). One rule is that the file can only have so many folder levels. You would have to be an expert in Windows to know them. You can't even find these rules on their website. Unfortunately, they only explain this after you lose your files. They said the rules came from Windows, not them, so they were not responsible. When I called about it, they said there was fine print somewhere that explained how it only backs up files if they conform to some rules. Hope you don't need your files.Ĭarbonite used to be good.
